Kuwabara Dental

Dr. Kuwabara is no stranger to the Washington, DC area.  He grew up in Montgomery County and spent many summers working at his father’s pediatric dental office, where he learned from the man he calls “the most gifted dentist I’ve ever known”.  He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.  In 1997 Dr. K received his Doctor of Dental Surgery at Ohio’s Case Western Reserve University, followed by specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland.  Not long after, he and his soon-to-be wife moved to Dallas where he did a fellowship at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, joined the faculty at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, and worked part-time in private practice.  Upon returning to the DC area, he became an instructor at Howard University, College of Dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Kuwabara also volunteered his time at the Spanish Catholic Center and worked in private practice before opening his own office in 2006.

Dr. K is lucky enough to have married Dr. Kim Menhinick, the smartest, prettiest, most talented endodontist in the area!  They have a lovely daughter, Catherine, who he never stops talking about.  He gets his kicks watching his daughter and wife competing on their respective synchronized figure skating teams for DC Edge. When not doing that Dr. Kuwabara enjoys working out, playing tennis, golf, and trying to outsmart the squirrels at the birdfeeder.  He will be the first to tell you that he doesn’t excel at any of those hobbies!

Dr. K loves being your friendly neighborhood kids dentist and an active part of the community.

Areas of Expertise

Exams and Cleanings

Here at Kuwabara Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to offer dental examinations, cleanings and x-rays to our patients.

We truly believe that regular dental examinations are important in order for your child to have good dental health and a smile of which he or she can be proud. We start by doing a professional cleaning, removing all of the bad tartar and other buildup on your child’s teeth.

We then do an examination, looking to catch and fix any problems before they become bigger ones. We examine each tooth, looking for any signs of decay, damage, or any other problems, such as signs of infection. We want to correct any problems your child may have before they get any worse.

We recommend routine dental cleanings for several reasons. When we perform a professional cleaning, we remove the buildup of plaque and tartar. We also clean the parts of your child’s teeth that are hard to reach, such as underneath the gums.

After a cleaning, we will polish your child’s teeth so that they shine! We can also apply a fluoride treatment, if necessary, to help prevent tooth decay.

Sealants

Here at Kuwabara Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to offer the very best dental care to our patients. We are proud to offer sealants for this reason.

Dental sealant is a plastic coating painted on your teeth. It attaches to your child’s teeth, smoothing the rough edges, depressions, and grooves that are typically found on teeth. It gives your child’s teeth a protective coating, helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities.

Fillings

At Kuwabara Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to offer fillings to our patients.

Dental fillings are used to treat different dental problems like cavities and broken teeth. Teeth are usually filled with a material called composite resin, which is designed to look like natural teeth. Fillings can also be done with gold, porcelain, or silver amalgam.
